The program for the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI)'s
36th Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas May 28 - June 1, 2010 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center came out today, and there are
quite a few workshops, events, and presentations on Precision Teaching.
The ABA International Convention is a
huge event over several days, and rather than try to list all those dealing with Precision Teaching or use of the Standard Celeration Chart in one post, today's post hits events that are broad-interest, introductory, and the Business Meeting of the Standard Celeration Society. Followup posts will list specific presentations organized by different agencies or areas.

Audience: Anyone seeking an introduction (or refresher) to precision teaching and standard celeration charting, including persons interested in using SCCs to improve their teaching or clinical practice and individuals planning to take the
Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) examination.
Description: This workshop will teach the steps of precision teaching with particular emphasis on reading and charting human performance on a
standard celeration chart (SCC). Participants will learn: to write precise performance statements (pinpointing), the three important dimensions of behavior to monitor, the features of the SCC, standard charting conventions, and how to analyze performance on the chart to assist in making data-based decisions. The instructors will draw from long and varied histories of success using the SCC in a range of settings to illustrate key concepts taught in the workshop. Examples from university teaching, educational intervention with special needs and regular education students, and the monitoring of private events will be used. Participants will receive a copy of the
Handbook of the Standard Celeration Chart, all materials used in the workshop, and a CD containing selected articles and an electronic version of the SCC.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to do the following:
- write precise performance statements (pinpointing);
- read performance data charted on a SCC;
- chart performance data charted on a SCC;
- describe data on a SCC in terms of its frequency, celeration, and bounce;
- describe change in performance using SCC change terminology;
- describe appropriate data-based change decisions.
Activities:
Applying principles derived from behavior analysis of well-designed instruction, our world-class group of workshop instructors will use a range of activities to ensure participants learn the skills targeted in the objectives. Participants will engage in choral responding and paced practice, timed practice on key concepts and skills, and both small and large group discussions.

Abstract: Since 1990 the
Standard Celeration Society (SCS) has comprised a collegial organization for all persons who use
Standard Celeration Charts to monitor and change human behavior frequencies. The society’s heritage lies greatly in Precision Teaching and its founder Ogden R. Lindsley,
who in 1972 (p. 9) named Precision Teaching because "what was really new in our procedure was precision, we decided to use that as an adjective in front of whatever it was one was doing: hence in our case, "precision teaching."
Lindsley (1971) [Note: this is an enormous 27Mb+ file] hoped that the standard recording and charting system would be used throughout the behavioral fields as Precision School Psychology, Precision Social Work (
Green & Morrow, 1972), Precision Speech Therapy (
Johnson, 1972), and so on. Dr. Lindsley’s greatest contribution as written in tribute by T. V. Joe Layng was his showing “that bringing frequency to the people revealed not only his heart, but the heart that resides in the science of human behavior as well.” The Society encourages the development and growth of a science of human behavior and learning, and promotes using the Standard Celeration Chart to further that objective. Ultimately, we have a society to create a more loving, less fearful world.

Journal of Precision Teaching and Celeration, the annual conference, and financial report.
